Good for Apple. Whether you agree with the conservative viewpoint or not, the kind of crap that Fox News propagates is just ludicrous. They are not in any way a news channel, and the sort of misinformation they try to deal out is actually hurting America quite a bit.

I predict that Fox News will either be off the air or completely different in less than two years. People will only put up with this crud for so long.

It's really hard me to take Fox News seriously with all the propaganda spaghetti.

And believe it or not that guy has a legion of followers. Scary stuff =\

Ya, like with how they'll only put up with progressivism for so long. Good call. Imbecile.

Right, Fox news will be off the air in two years, they are only gaining market share. The only way they are going to change or be off the air is if they are forced to, and then we have real issues!

Most news organizations are shills for Progressives, Fox news at least tries to be "Fair and balanced" though they definitely lean in the direction of Conservatives (The Republican Version), not the true conservatives. I can't stand any of them. News should be new, not pushing an agenda in either direction. That is what Opinion pieces are for.

I have no problem with Apple making a stand (I hope that it is just so they are not involved), but I wish the tech blogs would stay out of it when it comes to opinion. Report that they are doing it, but statements either way....why? I read tech blogs to get away from politics for a while. If you want to do both then make that your goal.

Say what you will about FNC, but they have FAR more viewers than any other news channel. You're fooling yourself If you really think they'll be gone in 2 years.
Here are the numbers from tvbythenumbers.com:
Prime Time
FNC – 2,775,000 viewers
CNN – 717,000 viewers
MSNBC –1,116,000 viewers
CNBC – 226,000 viewers
HLN –627,000 viewers

I think there is more of a chance that Apple will be gone in 2 years that Fox News will.

@mneithercott:

I'm sorry, but only someone completely blind and full of Republican rage can actually believe that Fox News is "fair and balanced".

I don't believe in parties. In fact, I think they should be banned, though that will never happen. I believe what I think is right and vote for whichever party aligns most with my feelings toward subjects. Fox News, however, is just a biased, hate filled "news" source.

In regards to them being off the air in two years, give it two years and we'll see who is right.

Also, Fox News manipulates their ratings. They partner with businesses and encourage people to leave their station on all day. My wife works at a large corporation run by an ultra-conservative president who mandates that every one of the hundreds of televisions in the place is tuned to Fox News 24 hours a day. They don't even turn them off at night, and you can't ever change the channel. So don't get too excited about their ratings.

@Chad

to quote my other comment:
"Only because the people who watch Fox News will refuse to watch anything else. Everyone else switches between MSNBC and CNN and what have you freely, without problems. Which is why Fox News bragging about their ratings is bunk to me."

Most people I talk to who watch Fox News say thats the only news they ever watch. Everyone else will hop about a little, which will obviously skew the results.

It really worries me that your comment was downranked. It worries me even more, really frightening actually, when I see someone saying Fox is "fair and balanced".

On topic here: I've very, VERY happy to hear Apple isn't advertising on Fox anymore.

I think a news organization can favor a certain opinion, but that is no excuse to throw journalism out the window. This is a nation founded on reason. It's not good when our news organizations forget that.

Do you understand there is a difference between opinion shows and news programs. Like MSNBC and CNN, whose opinion shows lean strongly to the left. Fox News' opinion shows lean to the right. For that matter, when was the last time an opinion show on MSBC brought on actual conservative personalities to debate a topic. It happens nightly on Fox News.

@Comment

I absolutely understand the difference between news shows and opinion shows. I just don't think Fox News understands the difference.

Beck was a Catholic when younger. Could his thinking, like most of those who watch Fox, be colored by having been bonked by a Priest as a kid?

Didn't Fox's Sean H. study to be a priest?

If so, don't you need to cut them some slack and understanding if they are coming from a similar abusive background? They can not help themselves.

You can feel the internal rage of those on Fox.

Sadly, Fox News is bigger than CNN and MSNBC combined the last time I checked. They're not going anywhere. If the advertisers don't stop pulling out, though, Beck may be gone (one can only hope). But Fox News isn't going anywhere. If anything, you should worry about CNN and MSNBC losing viewership and Fox becoming a bigger network than it already is.

A lot of hate for Beck here... how many of commenters have actually watched his show for more than 3 minutes? How many have given him a chance, rather than latching on to the clips played by MSNBC and Jon Stewart?

Sure, Beck is crass and very much not-PC, but he can sometimes at least make good points. Just because you disagree with those points doesn't mean he needs to die.

Back on topic, this decision wouldn't have been at all influenced by Al Gore being on the Apple board would it? I really really wish Apple would replace Gore with someone who could actually contribute something (and who wasn't a spawn of the devil). Not that Gore needs to die or anything, just get kicked off the board.

I haven't seen a 'real' news channel in a long time. Conservatives think the media is filled with character-crushing hippies; liberals think the media is filled with hateful war-happy Nazis. The only fact out there is that all the media outlets are out to make money -- so "fair and balanced" is something none of them can claim. They try to cater to their clients... paying advertisers, not you and me.

That said, unless they're showing the weather they all seem to have an agenda. The programs that show in-between the 'news' broadcasts (such as Larry King, Glenn Beck, etc.) are NOT news programs -- they're entertainment. I worked in television and radio for a long time and the one thing stressed is controversy. People have to love and/or hate you -- but not be in between. 'Luke warm' viewers will get you nowhere in the industry. People that love you for your black-or-white opinions will get you increased ratings (and thus advertising profits); and people that hate you for the very same reason will also get you ratings as well as draw attention to your show through their ranting.

The fact that everyone on this thread is so heated about their option is proof of Glenn's success. Regardless of what side you want to be on.

It's just entertainment. Take it as that and either watch it, or not. But don't get too excited or heated about it, otherwise you're just supporting and hyping the show in one form or the other. Any press is good press. At least that's how those numbers guys view it.

Just the fact that Fox News is constantly running those "fair & balanced" ads makes me uneasy. Why spend all that $ on ads to convince people they're fair & balanced if people already thought they were, 'cause they're not and it's even at the point where Fox News spouting propaganda is cliche.

This is what's great about being a dual citizen (British by descent). I can flee if FOX News is gone in two years or not. :-p

Now, in regards to the reality of FOX News actually being gone in two years... It's pretty ludicrous, but not so cut-and-dry. So what if FOX has the viewers... If they don't have the advertisers, no amount of viewers will matter. And even if News Corp could afford to keep FOX News up and running with cash coming from other sources, it makes no sense if less money is being made than spent. I doubt FOX News will be gone in two years. A realistic scenario is 10 or less. IF that.

Wow you sound like a very well rounded person. Hope fox doesn't go under or I would not be able to find the truth for news.

Haven't watched Beck's show. Funny how all his detractors seem to though...

And while I doubt Obama is a racist, I wholeheartedly agree progressivism is a cancer. Amusing you'd take the time to label that opinion "ludicrous," but thanks for the Op-Ed!

Regardless, Apple's money is best spent elsewhere. I doubt they even need to do much advertising on television at this point.
